Even though the Surface Windows 8 Pro is about to hit the market, Microsoft is yet to publicly reveal figures regarding the sales performance of the Surface RT, the first tablet in the company’s history that was released on October 26, 2012.

During Microsoft’s conference call with analysts on the company’s financial results for Q4 2012, Peter Klein, chief financial officer, said that the Surface product range could be expanded in the future, but in the meantime, everybody is gearing up for the Pro tablet.

He refused to provide any indication on Surface RT’s sales results, but instead he confirmed that the device would go on sale in 14 additional countries as soon as next month.

“During the quarter, we launched the first device in our Surface family of products. We recently increased production and expanded distribution to third-party retail partners. With the broadening of the Surface lineup, we will continue to highlight the power of Windows 8 tightly integrated with fantastic hardware,” Klein said.

Analysts, on the other hand, suggest that the Surface RT is a rather disappointing product, with less than 1 million units sold since launch.
