The ATI-Nvidia competition is about to stiffen once more, as Microsoft recently announced it recommends ATI graphic cards for the future Windows Vista operating system.

The Microsoft notice says that "ATI is preferred to Nvidia at this time due to superior driver support".

Another announcement lets users know that the current Beta 2 version of Vista isn't the real one, and another should be published over the course of the next two weeks.

Microsoft announced a short list of notebooks it recommends for the Vista system: the Acer Ferrari 3400, powered by ATI's Mobility Radeon 9700, the Acer Ferrari 4000 powered by ATI Mobility Radeon X700, HP Pavilion zd8230 powered by ATI Mobility Radeon X600 with 128MB of dedicated DDR, the former IBM Thinkpad T43 powered by ATI Mobility Radeon X300 64MB and Toshiba Tecra M4, which is the only system including an Nvidia solution, the Geforce 6 GO 6600/6200TC video card.

The complete specifications for running the Vista system are a 3GHz Pentium CPU or AMD equivalent, 1GB of memory and a S-ATA drive along with DVD recorder and such.
