The Redmond Company has announced that it is going to recall a recently released update to its Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 product. Microsoft has explained that it deemed this necessary because of the discovery of an error after the application was made available to the general public.

"Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 (SBS 2003 R2) is an update release to the award-winning SBS 2003 product, providing new features to address the growing needs of small businesses," stated Microsoft. The product delivers an interoperability platform for Windows Server operating system and Microsoft Exchange e-mail server, but is compatible with a range of additional software.

"Recently, and during a regular audit as part of our software production process, Microsoft became aware of an issue with the final...software containing nonfinal versions of a few core components," Microsoft representatives commented. "Since Microsoft has only just released SBS 2003 R2 to our manufacturing partners (OEMs, system builders and distributors), and it is not yet generally available to customers, the scope of this concern for partners and customers is very limited."

The Redmond Company plans to reissue the utility and has already informed customers of a minor delay in availability for the update.
