Windows RT isn’t quite the most successful product released by Microsoft, but the tech giant continues to bet big on its tablet-oriented platform.

Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the Operating Systems group, revealed during the company’s financial analyst meeting on Thursday that many more ARM tablets are likely to see daylight in the coming months from both Microsoft and its partners.

Even though Myerson doesn’t say it clearly, these devices are going to be powered by Windows RT 8.1, Microsoft’s very own tablet OS that has until now failed to impress.

“The ARM devices in particular in phones have incredible share given their battery life and the connectivity options available with the system-on-a-chip ecosystem. Windows RT was our first ARM tablet. And as phones extend into tablets, expect us to see many more ARM tablets, Windows ARM tablets in the future,” Myerson said.

Microsoft is expected to launch the second-generation Surface next week, with the updated range to include a new RT version powered by Windows RT 8.1 and featuring several improvements, such as longer battery life and better hardware.
