Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is gearing up for the release of a new flavor of their Microsoft Security Essentials application, and the company is currently getting ready to kick a new public beta testing period for it.

Apparently, the company has already started to send out invites to existing Security Essentials 2 beta testers, so as to inform them on the availability of the new test program on Microsoft Connect.

No specific info on what the upcoming flavor of the security software will include has slipped through until now, but we know that things have been already put in motion.

In the aforementioned email, Microsoft informs users that it is getting ready to kick off the new beta program, and that those who are interested in the matter can now announce their intent to participate.

Here's what the said message reads, according to Microsoft News:

Thank you so much for being a part of the Microsoft Security Essentials v2 Beta.

You have indicated that you are interested in receiving invites for Connect programs from Microsoft, so we would like to invite you to participate in the Microsoft Security Essentials Public Beta program on Microsoft Connect.

This program is for the newest Beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials which has the latest protection features. Be one of the select few who get access to this Beta release by signing up now to reserve your spot!

Those who would like to join the beta testing program should head over to the Microsoft Connect website here for that.

There, a similar message will await: “Thank you for participating in the Microsoft Security Essentials Beta program, which will start soon. We’ll notify you by email when it starts.”

Microsoft Security Essentials 2 arrived in December last year, following the initial launch of the free anti-virus application in September of 2009.

The software is currently compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, and chances are that Microsoft is getting ready to bring it to Windows 8 as well. The timing fits perfectly, one should agree.
