October is expected to mark the launch of two new platform releases from Microsoft, one for the desktop / tablet market, namely Windows 8, and another for the smartphone segment, Windows Phone 8.

The Redmond-based company is reportedly ramping up the development on the latter platform, and it is cancelling employee vacations in light of the upcoming release.

Apparently, current Windows Phone 8 builds still pack a lot of bugs inside, and the company is gearing up for eliminating them, so as to have a smoothly performing OS available for the official launch.

Microsoft has kept mum so far on the release of Windows Phone 8, but recent reports suggested that it might have the platform ready for RTM in September, and that the first handsets could land in October, coming from Nokia.

Windows Phone 8 should boast significant performance improvements over previous platform releases, along with support for better hardware.
