Microsoft has just announced that starting February 1, 2013 a Windows 8 upgrade would cost $119.99 (€90), while the Windows 8 Pro version, also an upgrade, will have a price tag of $199.99 (€150).

As part of a special offer available since launch, a standard Windows 8 upgrade is now priced at $39.99 (€30), but the discount is going to expire at the end of the month.

In addition, the Windows 8 Pro Pack will cost $99.99 (€75), while the Windows 8 Media Center Pack, which is still up for grabs at no cost until January 31, will be available for $9.99 (€7.5).

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the new pricing would support the growing trend of Windows 8, as the new operating system still has to face an avalanche of criticism coming not only from users, but also from several companies involved in the hardware manufacturing business.

Sales of Win8 are reported as being poor and so Microsoft decide to INCREASE the price! Is this designed to send sales into freefall? You couldn't make this up any better.

This cost push,is proof positive, that Microsoft are holding a 'lemon' with W8.
Pushing the price tag upwards,is pure desperation to get a return, but,it's counter-productive,it will make W8 sales look even worse.

M$ made a cardinal error when they created W8,in fact,it's even worse than VISTA,when it appeared.

They should have made W8 a tablet only OS,instead of pushing it onto the desktop.
It's pretty stupid making touch screen features for a desktop monitor, the mouse\keyboard will endure, who in their right mind wants grubby, fingerprinted, bacteria ridden monitor screens in front of their eyes?
Not long ago,our TV's were being flooded with images of news presenters using touch screens,a mere novely feature, which, like 3D of yesteryear(1950's)has faded away.
Start Screen is natural for a tablet,it just does NOT work for the desktop.

In future,Microsoft should do what they have done in the past, keep the OS's for tablets-desktops seperate.
