Apparently, the software update released a few days ago for its Windows Phone 7 devices has caused quite a stir due to the various issues that users reported for it, and Microsoft decided to pull it for some of the handsets.

Specifically, the problems were limited to Samsung handsets, with the update process hanging at a certain point, and with some devices rendered unusable.

Samsung Omnia 7 and Samsung Focus owners signaled these issues, and Microsoft responded with a workaround.

However, the company also announced that the update was pulled for the said devices, and that they were looking into the matter, to find the issue and to fix it.

“We have identified a technical issue with the Windows Phone update process that impacts a small number of phones,” a Microsoft spokesman commented on the matter, according to Pocket-lint.

“In response to this emerging issue, we have temporarily taken down the latest software update for Samsung phones in order to correct the issue and as soon as possible will redistribute the update.”

While some users stated that the update process hanged at a certain point without affecting the device, less fortunate ones saw their phones rendered unusable as the installation process stopped.

The software update in question was delivered to users as a prerequisite for the next firmware bump for Widows Phone devices out there.

This update is only a minor one, while the next software, codenamed “NoDo,” would bring into the mix a range of appealing improvements, such as copy&paste, or speed enhancements when it comes to applications and games.

It still remains to be seen what actions would Microsoft and Samsung take to solve any other problems that Omnia 7 or Focus users might have encountered. Info on when would the software update become available again for these users lacks as well.
