The app was a project of Microsoft Garage

Microsoft has recently decided to remove the Tetra Lockscreen app from the Windows Phone store, as the project was part of the Microsoft Garage team and only supposed to help test out the idea with users' help.

Redmond hasn't provided any kind of information as to whether the app could be relaunched in the store at a later time or if some of its features might be implemented in another program, so it's a little bit too early to discuss whether Tetra Lockscreen can evolve to a full-featured Windows Phone app or not.

But a notification posted in the Windows Phone store reveals that the app was retired, with Microsoft saying that “we learned a lot” thanks to the feedback sent by users.

Widgets on the lock screen

Tetra Lockscreen was one of the exciting projects that have arrived in the Windows Phone store lately, allowing users to customize the lock screen with widgets, such as weather, calendar, maps, and a stopwatch.

These widgets could be accessed without even unlocking the phone and provided information collected from Windows Phone apps, such as the built-in calendar and weather apps.

Needless to say, Tetra Lockscreen was one of the few ways to customize the Windows Phone lock screen, and given how much users liked it, don't be too surprised if Microsoft plans to implement it in the final version of Windows 10 for phones.

In fact, that could be one of the best ways to bring back the app in final form, as Microsoft is already looking into ways to provide more customization options to users in Windows 10 for phones.

The new operating system is expected to debut in the second half of 2015, but it remains to be seen if the company is ready to go as far as to make Tetra Lockscreen part of the default feature lineup or bring it back separately as a stand-alone piece of software.
