Windows Phone 8.1, the latest flavor of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, is currently rolling out as an official platform upgrade for users around the world, including the US, and Microsoft has started to promote some of its main features in new videos.

On Thursday, the company published a new promo video for Cortana, the digital personal assistant in Windows Phone 8.1, so as to provide users with a glimpse at some of the main functionality it was released with.

Embedded below, the clip offers users a look at some of the main features and capabilities that Cortana will provide them with.

Moreover, the clip also shows users how to set up Cortana to give them the info that interests them the most, how to get her to set up reminders or to send messages, and more, so as to enjoy a truly personal experience when it comes to the smartphone’s digital assistant.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Cortana is officially available only for users in the United States for the time being, though people in other markets out there can also get it on their Windows Phone 8.1 devices unofficially.

For that, they need to change the location of the phone to the United States, while also having to set the device’s language to English.

Even so, they will not enjoy a localized experience with Cortana unless they are in the United States, of course. However, Microsoft has already confirmed that it is working on bringing the digital personal assistant to more markets out there, so that more users can fully enjoy its features.

The UK and China are expected to receive it before the end of this year, but no specific info on availability has been provided as of now.

According to Microsoft, even if Cortana is not available for them, Windows Phone 8.1 users are still able to take advantage of the search capabilities of their devices, accessible through the search button.

“Cortana is your personal assistant on your Windows Phone. She's there to help make things easier for you and keep you up to date on the things that matter to you,” Microsoft explains on its website.

“Whether it’s to keep you looped in with your world or help you manage your everyday life, Cortana is there for you.”

Until more info on when Cortana arrives on devices in other markets around the world is made available, have a look at the video embedded below to learn more on what it can offer.
