Novell had a very strong and prompt reaction to a report Microsoft published recently which states that open source code is more difficult to manage than Windows. The report was carried out by one of Microsoft's certified partners, Security Innovation, and claims that Linux administrators needed over two thirds more time to solve new business requirements than Windows administrators did.
Novell claims these allegations are false and that the sole purpose of publishing this report is to confuse users and promote Windows as a better product when that's not the case.
The study compared two teams of expert IT administrators running separately Windows Server 2000 and Novell SuSE Enterprise Linux 8, then monitored their activity as they upgraded
to Windows Server 2003 and Novell SuSE Enterprise Linux 9.
To further highlight Microsoft's intention to confuse users, Novell indicated several flaws in the methodology of the survey in a blog posting by one of its managers, Kevin Barney. Barney claims that few of the interoperability problems alleged in the report are real and that it's unlikely Microsoft doesn't have similar issues.
