The next Windows release will come with enhanced fingerprint authentication

I’ve already told you that Windows 8.1 will boast greatly improved fingerprint support, but Microsoft has used the TechEd conference to showcase some hidden options of this new feature.

This video posted by WinBeta shows only the Windows 8.1 device screen, but you can also hear Microsoft’s Chris Hallum saying that fingerprint authentication is “super-fast.”

In addition, Hallum shows that the new fingerprint support lets users lock down not only the computer itself, but also the installed apps and some of the built-in features.

So, for example, you could even protect the “Sell all shares” option of the stocks app using fingerprint authentication, thus making sure that no one else accesses it.

This new security improvement is expected to be available in the preview version of Windows 8.1 that’s going to be released later this month at the BUILD developer conference.
