The new update is not yet available on HTC smartphones

We reported yesterday that Microsoft had just started the rollout of the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 worldwide, but it looks like a small percent of users are unable to upgrade to the latest version of Windows Phone.

Even though the update is said to be fully compatible with all devices that have Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview installed, it appears that some users report that they are met with a certain 8018830f error when trying to download and upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1.

The good news is that Microsoft has already acknowledged the issue and has confirmed that it is now working on the fix. The company’s Joe Belfiore claims that those who are affected by this error shouldn’t try to update again, as the upgrade process won’t work.

Belfiore also claims that Microsoft thinks that this error is related to the low system storage, but from users’ reports, it’s clear that this isn’t the cause of the issue.

Many replies from Windows Phone fans highlight the fact that, even though they have enough space on their smartphones, they still can’t download and update to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1.

Anyway, whatever the reason for this issue might be, Joe Belfiore has confirmed that Microsoft is now working to fix the problem. He also claims that there’s only a small percentage of Windows Phone users who can’t install this update, but that doesn’t mean that Microsoft won’t try to bring a fix to the problem as soon as possible.

In the same piece of news it appears that owners of HTC smartphones can’t upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for the moment. Unfortunately, Microsoft has yet to respond to those asking about the availability of the latest Windows Phone update for HTC smartphones.

There’s no telling whether or not Microsoft will make Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 available for HTC phones this week, but we will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter.

In the meantime, the big chunk of Windows Phone users who have already flashed Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview on their smartphones can now enjoy the new features included in Update 1.

You will be getting Live Folders and a brand new Xbox Music application that is (hopefully) bug-free now. Cortana will be available in more countries as well, including the UK, India and China.

Store Live Tile, SMS merge & forwarding, as well as Apps Corner will also be available upon installing Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1.
