Microsoft is not done with Windows Vista. Although the client enterprise edition of the operating system is available to the Software Assurance customers through volume licensing starting November 30, the Redmond Company has revealed that it still has some surprises up its sleeve regarding Vista.

Moreover, Microsoft promised to unveil "some amazing things" before January 30, 2007 when the operating system is scheduled for general availability. "Now that businesses have access to Windows Vista and 2007 Office System, we've only just begun. I've said it before and I'll say it again: when it comes to the consumer market launch of these two products, stay on your toes, as we've got some amazing things in store for you between now and the end of January," said Nick White, a Product Manager at Microsoft working on the Windows Vista launch team.

"Time is sort of a funny thing," stated Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. "You need to give new technologies time to incubate before you try to bring them together. Let each technology come to market individually and then do the integration."

The development process of Windows Vista took a little over five years if we consider the release of windows XP as the starting milestone. This five-year period has three stages. The first two years were dedicated to creating and integrating a variety of new technologies, the third to Windows XP SP2 and during the last two, Microsoft created the Vista released on November 30. The Redmond Company already stated that this time gap between XP and Vista will be singular in the company's history.

"Te new versions of Windows, Office and Exchange Server 2007 are the result of an unprecedented collaboration between Microsoft and its customers. Real-life scenarios guided product development through feedback from customers who volunteered to let Microsoft watch them work in more than 1 billion user sessions. During testing, customers from around the world downloaded more than 5 million beta versions of the products and provided valuable feedback and suggestions," reads a fragment of a Microsoft press release.

The pictures below were taken at NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square New York during the Vista launch. A big thanks goes out to Nick White for making them available.
