Microsoft is again trying to innovate, this time in the automotive sector where its existing services could help drivers and manufacturers alike improve not only the driving experience, but also safety and comfort.

Pranish Kumar, currently in charge of the Windows Embedded Automotive team, also developing automotive technologies, explained that infotainment and navigation systems would soon be replaced by more advanced systems that could provide a richer experience.

“Carmakers will increasingly have the ability to provide iterative updates, much in the same way that computer software works today, that refresh the driving experience and extend compatibility to the latest consumer devices,” Microsoft explained.

The tech giant already has some experience in the automotive industry, as it already worked with Ford on the Sync infotainment system that’s currently available on millions of cars sold in the United States.
