14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has been long rumored to plan the release of its Office productivity suite for Apple’s iOS devices, and some more proof on the matter has just emerged.
The Redmond-based software giant has published two job advertisements on its website, both of which hint at the upcoming availability of said software.
The company is looking for engineers for its team working on the next version of the application for both Mac and iOS, the aforementioned job listings show.
“The MacBU Group at the Silicon Valley Campus is looking for a talented Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with a strong technical background to join the Outlook Test team,” one of these listings reads.
“You will work very closely with the Development team on the design, implementation, & testing of new feature work to be part of Microsoft’s next move on the Mac and on iOS.”
No specific info on what the new software would include has been provided so far, yet previous reports suggested that Office will be optimized for use on the Apple iPad.
“We build our own Mac and iOS products that present team members with unique technical challenges as well as exceptional opportunities for ownership, autonomy and professional growth,” the job offer continues.
Some of the previous reports on the matter suggested that Microsoft might be set to launch Office for iOS as soon as this November.
No official announcement on the matter has emerged until now, yet said job posts can be seen as possible confirmation of Microsoft’s plans related to Office and iOS.
The company has already made available a touch-optimized flavor of Office (Office 2013), designed to fit the upcoming Windows 8 tablets, and might aim at releasing the same product on iPad too.
Of course, owners of iOS devices can also take Microsoft’s new Office Web Apps for a spin, although they will not compare to an Office-dedicated application, that’s for sure.
