Microsoft is gearing up for making a series of changes to Windows Phone’s UI, a recent job listing on the company’s website suggests. The company is hiring a User Experience engineer for the Mobile Studio team.

The Redmond-based company notes that it is looking to make changes to its future mobile products and experiences, but does not offer further details on the matter.

“Help us change the way people think about mobile phones. The Mobile Studio will redefine the mobile phone for millions of everyday users around the world,” the job post on Microsoft’s website reads.

“We are looking for an intuitive and driven User Interface Designer with the ability to conceptualize and lead the design of features built for mobile phones. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who is excited about making a real impact on future mobile products and experiences.”

With Windows Phone, Microsoft introduced the highly popular Metro UI, which is present on the upcoming Windows 8 desktop platform too.

Microsoft plans on making Metro the default interface on a variety of other products as well, including Xbox and online destinations. The next flavor of Office should boast Metro as well.

Microsoft also hints at a series of changes in the Windows Phone functionality in the aforementioned job listing. Overall, it appears that the software giant is already getting ready to change the newly introduced Windows Phone UX.

“The candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for extending and evolving the functionality of Windows Phone,” Microsoft explains.

“The candidate will work closely with a team of UI designers, industrial designers, user researchers, design managers, brand marketers and software engineers in a highly collaborative environment.”

The next Windows Phone release is expected to closely resemble the Windows 8 client (which will power tablet PCs as well). What remains to be seen is whether the changes that Microsoft plans on bringing to Windows Phone will make it resemble Windows 8 more.
