Xbox Music users might soon receive OneDrive cloud storage

Microsoft is already offering Xbox Music users the possibility to stream music to their Windows devices, such as PCs, tablets, and smartphones using a paid subscription, but the company is now working to offer customers more power by adding cloud storage to let them upload their very own songs.

At this point, Microsoft's existing streaming option is limited to the songs that the company is actually selling via Xbox Music store, so in case your favorite ones are missing from the library, there's no option to add them manually and stream them to multiple devices.

But as LiveSino is reporting, Microsoft is working on a storage locker service in OneDrive that would give them such an option and make it possible to listen to their favorite music wherever they go on any Windows device.

Some references found in OneDrive's code points to a dedicated “Music” folder that would call for users to upload all their songs to take advantage of this new feature.

“Meet your OneDrive Music folder. Upload your music files to this folder, so that you can play them via Xbox Music from any of your devices. You can also add files to this folder using the OneDrive app for your computer. To get the full Xbox Music experience, move your music files into the Music folder on your OneDrive,” the text found in OneDrive's code reads.

As you can see, only little is known at this point, but it appears that Microsoft is working to make Xbox Music compete with Amazon and Google, which are both offering options to stream music that's owned by the user.

OneDrive has received plenty of improvements lately and Microsoft has even decided to offer more storage space to business users, with cloud capacity for these accounts increased up to 1TB.

“OneDrive for Business has been part of Office 365 for some time, but earlier this month we announced a new standalone offer for OneDrive for Business, making it even easier for our business customers to get the file sync and share service that’s designed to meet the anywhere access, storage, scale, data security and compliance requirements organizations need,” Microsoft explained in late April when it rolled out this change.

Microsoft is yet to comment on the new Xbox Music improvements, but expect more details to surface soon as the company completes development. We've also reached out to Microsoft for a word on this and will update the article accordingly.
