The number of Microsoft stores across the United States is growing and Redmond is always considering new locations for its retail network, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the company is now getting ready to inaugurate a new one in New York.
But what’s more surprising is the fact that Microsoft is actually planning to compete directly with Apple for the heart of New York buyers, as the new retail store is expected to be located on Fifth Avenue.
As NY Daily News reports, this is only a few blocks away from the Apple store near Central Park, which is pretty famous across the world for the cubical design that’s entirely based on transparent glass.
Although this would be the very first Microsoft store in New York’s shopping area, it’s not the first time the software giant is giving residents the chance to try out and eventually buy its products.
Since the debut of Windows 8, Microsoft has relied on pop-up stores to bring software and hardware closer to potential buyers.
Times Square, for example, was placed at the core of the Windows 8 launch back in October 2012, with Microsoft installing no less than 39 digital boards displaying the Start screen for everyone who either attended the launch event or was simply passing by.
