A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft rolled out a $50 (€35) voucher for Windows XP users who decided to migrate to Windows 8.1, but today the company has released a new offer that surely comes in handy to many more consumers.

Starting today, Microsoft is offering a $100 (€73) price cut to every Windows XP user who purchases a new Windows 8.1 computer from its own stores.

“Save $100 when you buy any Surface Pro 2 or select PCs over $599. Receive free premium phone, chat, and sales support for virtually anything you need on your new computer for the first 90 days,” Microsoft says in the description of the new promo.

This is obviously another attempt to move more users from Windows XP to Windows 8.1, especially because the 13-year-old operating system is still installed on 29 percent of the desktop computers worldwide.

The main problem for Windows XP users is that the migration to Windows 8.1 is a rather expensive process, so that’s exactly the issue that Microsoft is trying to tackle with today’s campaign.

At the same time, Microsoft is also said to be working with partners to bring more affordable devices to the market, so Windows licenses will be offered at a discounted price to companies that are producing tablets and PCs with a price below $250 (€181).
