Windows 8.1 RTM is probably on its way to OEMs right now, so Microsoft is now making the final adjustments for the OS update that's set to be unveiled on October 18.

In a leaked mail that reached the web today, Microsoft tells OEMs that they are allowed to ship Windows 8.1 inventory as soon as they receive it, regardless of the date.

“Windows 8.1 Commercial OEM product will be included on September 1, 2013 price lists for OEM Distributors so that you can begin to place orders in advance of the General Availability date.

“OEM Distributors will be allowed to ship their Windows 8.1 inventory to system builders and resellers as soon as they receive it, which may or may not be prior to the October 18 GA date,” the mail reads.

Windows 8.1 is set to be unveiled for users on October 18, but Windows 8 adopters will be allowed to download it from the Store one day earlier.
