Newegg published some Windows 10 pricing details during the weekend, but Microsoft has finally confirmed this information in a statement sent this morning, revealing that the new operating system will cost just as much as its predecessor.

As compared to the prices posted on Newegg, Microsoft says that Windows 10 will be 10 dollars more expensive for each version, so the Home version will cost $119 (€105), while the Pro version will be available for $199 (€150).

Here is Microsoft’s statement in full, which includes some other details regarding prices for Windows 10 upgrades:

“The suggested retail prices for Windows 10 in the U.S. are the same as Windows 8.1.”

“Windows 10 Home is an estimated retail price of $119. Windows 10 Pro is an estimated retail price of $199. And Windows 10 Pro Pack, which enables you to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro, is an estimated retail price of $99. All these are available in stores or online.”

To launch on July 29

Microsoft revealed yesterday that Windows 10 would launch on July 29, but it’s not yet clear whether this is also the date when the operating system would arrive in stores or it only becomes available as a digital download.

Newegg said that Windows 10 would start shipping on August 31, so Microsoft might actually be planning a release for insiders and Windows users who’ll be eligible for the free upgrade on July 29.

Some details are yet to be disclosed, but it looks like Windows 10 is finally taking shape, so in just a couple of months, everyone should be able to give the new operating system a try. Windows 10 will be free for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users who upgrade during the first 12 months after launch, with some other promos likely to be announced by Microsoft in the first 3 months on the market.
