Windows 8.1 will finally bring back the utterly-popular Start button

Tech giant Microsoft has finally confirmed that Windows 8.1 would come with a Start button, but the company has released only vague details about the feature whose removal dramatically affected Windows 8 sales.

Basically, the Start button will allow Windows 8.1 users to quickly launch the Start Screen and will be placed in the same lower left corner as its predecessors.

It will take the place of the small Start Screen preview showing up whenever you move the mouse cursor in the corner and will be always visible when you work on your desktop.

Even though so many people want the Start button back in Windows, Microsoft doesn’t make such a big case about it and revealed only a few details about its comeback.

“We’ve improved the way you navigate to Start with the mouse by changing the Start “tip” to be the familiar Windows logo. The new tip appears anytime you move the mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen, and is always visible on the taskbar when on the desktop,” Antoine Leblond, corporate vice president, Windows Program Management, said in a post.

“There are also options to change what the corners do, and options to boot into alternate screens. For example, if you prefer to see the Apps view versus all the tiles, you can choose to have the Start screen go directly to Apps view.”

Overall, Windows 8.1 will be particularly focused on the customer feedback, hence the return of the Start button.

Microsoft claims that most, if not all, features available in Windows 8.1 will be based on users’ opinions, so the Start Screen, Metro apps, and the Windows Store will also get major improvements.

“Not only will Windows 8.1 respond to customer feedback, but it will add new features and functionality that advance the touch experience and mobile computing’s potential,” Leblond concluded.
