Microsoft has just announced the new Windows Update for Business, a new feature that will debut in Windows 10 and that will put companies in full control of the updates delivered to their computers.

As its name suggests, Windows Update for Business is specifically designed to make the process of updating company computers more secure and to prevent any compatibility issues that might arise when downloading and installing OS updates.

The company says that Windows Update for Business will allow IT professionals to configure distribution rings and select the devices they want to be included in what update waves, and delay deployment on specific ones. At the same time, there will be peer-to-peer delivery, which will enable delivery of updates to offices with limited bandwidth faster and more securely.

Reduced costs and full control of updates

Microsoft says that all of these would greatly help companies because it can reduce management costs, provide full control of updates, and offer quicker access to security updates.

Windows Update for Business will be offered free of charge for Windows Pro and Windows Enterprise devices and will be part of the new operating system coming in the summer of 2015.

“As you roll out Windows 10, we recommend you segment your Windows devices and consider the best updating approach for each class of device, and then start a pilot of Windows Update for Business with your end-user devices,” Microsoft said in a statement.

“We have been working with IT professionals all over the world to design new capabilities in Windows Update, designed for end-user devices within businesses.”

Together with the new Windows Store for Business, the new Windows Update for Business is supposed to make OS and app updates faster and more secure, giving IT professionals the power they need to make sure that no compatibility issues arise when installing updates on company computers.
