The storage war continues today with a new episode, this time courtesy of Microsoft, who decided to offer all Office 365 subscribers unlimited storage in the cloud at no additional cost.

In other words, once you purchase a new Office 365 subscription, you get not only access to the very powerful Office solutions, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, but also as much space as you need in the cloud without having to pay another cent.

The company announced this update this morning, explaining that the offer is available for both consumers and enterprises, so it doesn’t really matter which subscription you have because OneDrive now comes with unlimited storage once you log into the Office 365 account.

Julia White, general manager of Office 365 Technical Product Management, made the announcement public on the Office blog, also revealing that the offer is aimed at OneDrive and OneDrive for Business, both of which will be upgraded to unlimited storage space.

A move against Dropbox

There’s no doubt that with unlimited storage space on OneDrive, Microsoft clearly makes its cloud solution a bit more appealing than the ones provided by its main rivals, namely Google and Dropbox.

The latter is currently offering 1 TB of storage for $9.99 (7.85 euro) a month, but needless to say, you only receive cloud storage without access to Office applications.

On the other hand, the cheapest Microsoft subscription is available for as low as $6.99 (5.5 euro) per month, and you get both unlimited storage in the cloud and Office, which is clearly quite an appealing package for those who need such a solution.

Previously, Microsoft was offering 1 TB of space to all Office 365 subscribers, while additional storage was available for a monthly fee. All accounts will be upgraded to unlimited storage with no other fee required.

Available on most mobile platforms

One of the best things of OneDrive is the availability on the majority of platforms on the market, including Windows Phone, iOS, and Android, and needless to say, with unlimited storage the service becomes more appealing to all users who want to keep their files easily accessible wherever they go.

The free version of OneDrive, which doesn’t include Office 365, comes with 15 GB of free storage space, but additional space can be purchased for a monthly fee.

For example, you can get 100 GB of OneDrive space for $1.99 (1.5 euro) per month, while 200 GB can be yours for $3.99 (3.15 euro) per month. Obviously, there’s no doubt that the best package is the $6.99 (5.5 euro) subscription that also includes unlimited storage and Office 365 apps.
