Users confirmed that Microsoft is replacing tablets running the new firmware

Back in December, Microsoft rolled out a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 2 that caused quite a lot of issues on these tablets, including battery problems that reduced autonomy to only a couple of hours.

The company has since pulled the firmware update and promised to release a new one after the holiday, but some users are revealing on the Microsoft Community forums that Redmond can very well replace their devices with a new one without too many questions.

Even though it’s pretty clear that all problems have been caused by the firmware update and not by the devices themselves, it appears that Microsoft agrees to replace the tablets running the new firmware.

“Hey folks.. so I contacted Surface support via chat... They agreed to send me a NEW replacement Surface for free. I made sure to double check that the replacement would not be a refurb,” one user explained on the forums. “I explained the issue with the firmware and the fact that I had previously done every and anything I could to troubleshoot it... as well as my concern about the overheating.”

“I also did this and ordered a new one for exchange. Hopefully they send a new surface pro 2 and not a repaired one. Otherwise I have to send the new one back again,” another one confirmed.

Microsoft is yet to provide more information on the new firmware update, but the company would most likely release it this month as part of the Patch Tuesday update cycle.

Redmond promised to work throughout the holidays to develop the new firmware update, but no timing has been provided until now. We’re still waiting for more information from Microsoft, so we’ll update this article accordingly when we receive new details.
