Microsoft today announced that Office 365 users would be allowed to upload larger files, as the company is trying to make it easier for everyone to manage items stored in the cloud.

Start today, the SharePoint Online can upload files up to 2GB, as compared to 250 MB in the old version of the service. At the same time, support for more formats is also available, including .exe and .dll.

“This value is already an option for SharePoint on-premises admins who can add or remove blocked file types from central administration via the Blocked File Types page. For SharePoint Online, our telemetry shows that customers want to store these files in the cloud along with their other content. This change will eliminate a number of sync failures customers have seen due to unsupported file types,” Microsoft noted.

Last but not least, SharePoint Online customers will be allowed to create up to 10,000 site collections if they use the Enterprise version, while the relationship threshold of list lookups have been increased from 8 to 12.
