Windows 8.1 is just around the corner, so the company should better start working on the next Windows release that’s obviously expected to be launched sometime next year.

Since 8.1 is just an update for Windows 8, more or less like a service pack, some sources familiar with the matter hinted that a second update possibly called Windows 8.2 might also be released.

But according to WinSupersite.com, Microsoft is actually unsure whether a new Windows 8 update should be developed or not, as the surprising departure of CEO Steve Ballmer might change the company’s plans a little bit.

This means that whoever comes after Ballmer has a pretty tough mission, as many divisions within the Redmond-based company urgently need to work on their short-term plans, even if the recently started reorg is successfully completed.
