Microsoft continues the search for a new CEO, so the company has remained completely tight-lipped on this particular subject during the second quarter earnings call earlier today.

While Redmond has performed particularly well in this quarter, it still refuses to provide more information on the CEO search, even though it promised to announce the name of Steve Ballmer’s successor in early 2014.

According to people close to the matter, cloud boss Satya Nadella is the front-runner for taking over the vacant CEO seat, especially after Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally has ruled himself out of the negotiations.

At the same time, internals Tony Bates and Kevin Turner, as well as former Nokia boss Stephen Elop, are also said to be involved in the talks, even though nothing has been confirmed so far.

An announcement on the new CEO is expected to be made either later this month or in early February, so we’ll keep you up to date with the development.
