Microsoft finally confirmed that it’s working on a large project called Blue but, at the same time, the company official who released this statement also suggested that the company might come up with a different designation before the new operating system goes live.

Blue is just the internal codename, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Frank Shaw said, without providing any other details on the upcoming Windows 8 upgrade.

“Product leaders across Microsoft are working together on plans to advance our devices and services, a set of plans referred to internally as Blue,” Shaw explained.

Calling the next Windows version “Blue” could be a pretty risky decision for the Redmond-based giant, especially because many users would associate the operating system with the famous Blue Screen that’s still experienced by some users every once in a while.

On the good side, we’ve found that Microsoft might debut the first public beta of Blue in June, so more information is very likely to surface in the next few months.
