The new build of Windows 8.1 that got leaked this morning comes with several updates, including changes concerning the default messaging client.

As you know, Microsoft has removed the Messaging app in Windows 8.1 Preview, planning to focus exclusively on the Skype platform that is playing a much more important role for the company’s long-term strategy.

Windows 8.1 build 9471 comes with a pre-installed Skype version, so users can start chatting with their friends once OS installation comes to an end.

Surprisingly, the Skype live tile is missing from the Start screen, so the only way to find and launch the app is to search for it. Simply launch the Start screen and type “Skype” to get to it. The application loads and runs just fine, just like any other native Windows 8.1 app.
