Microsoft is prepping to launch two new flagships in 2015

Microsoft is poised to launch two new flagship smartphones later this year, after Windows 10 becomes available in the wild. Redmond says that we should expect the new OS to arrive this summer, but mobile users will have to wait a bit longer for the Mobile version of the operating system.

So it's pretty safe to assume that Microsoft’s new flagships won’t arrive before late fall. Now, the rumor mill has already started whispering that the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL will be the flagships that the tech giant will end up unveiling towards the end of the year.

And a recent leak has already revealed the specifications of these phones and also their codes name, Cityman and Talkman. Now a new report coming out of WMPU is here to add weight to the previous information.

Purported specs of the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL

According to the leak, the Lumia 940 will arrive with a 5.2-inch display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and will bundle a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset under the hood, complete with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The phone is supposed to don a powerful 20MP camera out of the box and to rely on a decent 3,000mAh battery.

As for the Lumia 940 XL, the phone will take advantage of a larger display of the 5.7-inch variety with the same QHD resolution. Interestingly, it seems that Qualcomm will soon release an octa-core version of the Snapdragon 808, which will power the entrails of the larger Lumia 940.

Apart from that, the phablet will don the same 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and 20MP frontal camera. Moreover, customers will find a larger battery of 3,300mAh capacity pumping juice into the machine.

The Lumia 940 XL will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 or 808?

Earlier rumors said that the Lumia 940 XL would take advantage of a Snapdragon 810, so maybe a little mistake sneaked into this report?

Apart from this incongruity, the spec lists concur, so even if we don’t have any kind of official confirmation, it seems that these are the internals Microsoft’s upcoming flagships will come with.

The upcoming Lumia hardware looks pretty similar to the LG G4, which got unveiled not so long ago, except for the main camera, which is a bit more capable. Also the Lumias will be running Windows 10 Mobile and not Android 5.1 Lollipop.

What we mean by that is that the specs seem to be in league with what the current competing flagships are offering. So nothing out of the ordinary.
