14 DAY TRIAL // A lot of fuss has recently been created about Microsoft’s upcoming flagship smartphones, the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, as more and more information related to the devices is becoming available to us through leaks.
And as usual, concept phone designers are ahead of the game and provide us with their vision of how Microsoft’s flagships could end up looking. We already showed you what the Lumia 940 and 940 XL might look like with an aluminum unibody design, but the latest renders we are going to show you embed the latest rumors into visuals.
A few days ago, we told you that the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL would apparently share a polycarbonate body with aluminum frames, and besides that, it seems that Microsoft will also include a USB Type-C port in both flagships.
Another new piece of technology that will make it into the upcoming Lumias is an iris scanner, which will allow owners to unlock the devices via eye contact. Iris-based authentication systems aren’t a novelty in the mobile world, but most brand vendors are yet to adopt this technology and implement it into their handsets.
What if the Lumia 940 looked like this?
Anyway, the new Lumia 940 renders we’ve been telling you about above have been provided by designer Crowtor, who envisioned the device as coming with an 8.5mm / 0.33 inch profile and a ratio of 16:8.5. The remaining space is utilized for notifications and the status display.
Also, the depicted Lumia 940 is shown boasting a USB Type-C connector and a nano SIM tray.
We can’t really identify the main camera on the back, but maybe the designer has covered it with glass for protection. The usual Windows Phone capacitive buttons are present and the speaker is located at the bottom. In line with previous rumors, the Lumia 940 is shown with a metallic frame.
Apart from that, the renders don’t seem to offer any other hints related to specifications.
Recently, we have told you that the Lumia 940 specifications leaked online revealing that it will be a 5.2-inch device with a QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and will bundle a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset complete with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
