Redmond “accidentally” publishes a teaser on its website

Microsoft is expected to announce a few new devices running Windows Phone today at MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, and while the company has remained tight-lipped on the models that would be launched, an “accidentally” published teaser already reveals two of the devices to be presented today.

Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are likely to be introduced by Microsoft at MWC 2015 and both are expected to go on sale in April or May, first in emerging markets and then all over the world.

This is pretty much the first time we're hearing about Lumia 640 XL, and judging by its name, this is going to be a larger version of the 640, which in its turn will be a successor to the 630.

But interestingly, the Lumia 640 XL will be more than that. Reports online claim that Microsoft's Lumia 640 XL could actually be a successor to the 1320, so instead of launching the 1330, the company decided to go for a completely new name that would better highlight its key feature - the big display.

Preliminary specs

The post that Microsoft published “by mistake” on its website has since been removed, but thanks to information that got leaked in the last few months, we already know what to expect from this new device.

The Lumia 640 XL is likely to come with a 5.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

The device will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and an Adreno 305 GPU unit, while users will be provided with 32 GB of storage space. Sources say that microSD card support won't be offered, but it remains to be seen if this is indeed true.

Last but not least, the new model is likely to come with 1 GB of RAM, so the new model would be fully compatible with the upcoming Windows 10 for phones.

At first, the new Lumia will launch with Windows Phone 8.1, but a free upgrade to Windows 10 for phones will be offered when the new OS becomes available.

Keep in mind that all of these are just rumors for the time being and full details are expected later today at the MWC 2015.

Update: Microsoft has just launched the Lumia 640 XL at MWC 2015.
