Microsoft is expected to launch the second-generation Surface tablet next week as part of an event in NYC, with sources close to the matter indicating that both the RT and the Pro are likely to receive updates.

It now appears that Microsoft is planning to release a trade-in program for the second-generation Surface Pro, giving owners of the existing model the chance to buy the upgraded unit at a special price.

A Reddit user explained that he talked to the staff of a Microsoft Store who confirmed that a trade-in program that would require customers to pay the difference for the second-generation unit is very likely.

“I called an actual Microsoft Store, and they said they will probably know more information once the event is over. But they said that--for sure--I will not be able to exchange my Surface Pro for a Surface Pro 2 even if the Surface Pro 2 is launched. They did say, however, that they will--for sure--have a trade-in program where I can pay the difference,” the user posted.

As far as the second-generation Surface Pro is concerned, word is that Microsoft is planning to install an Intel i5 processor, along with 8 GB of RAM and a two-position kickstand for increased productivity in both landscape and portrait modes.
