The EU competition regulators continue their investigation in Microsoft’s failure to provide users with a browser choice screen, and new sources claim that the company is very likely to receive a fine sometime next month.

A report by Reuters and citing people familiar with the matter indicates that the European Commission is preparing a huge fine for the Redmond-based technology giant.

“The Commission is planning to fine Microsoft before the Easter break,” the source was quoted as saying.

While Antoine Colombani, the EU competition policy spokesperson, refused to comment on this report, the same aforementioned insiders suggested that the antitrust body may also push back the decision, so it could take a bit longer until the fine is officially announced.

Microsoft is, obviously, refusing to comment on these rumors, but the company has already said that it would accept any decision of the European Commission without further appeals.
