Try to find the most words possible or earn scoring bonuses by finding longer words

Microsoft has released its first iOS game with Xbox Achievements – Wordament. The free online game has players connecting letters to create as many words as possible in two minutes.

Wordament is a two-minute long word tournament where players compete in real-time, on the same board, against everyone else on the planet that is currently playing.

Each new board is unique and players get alternating rounds with different challenges, such as two- and three-letter diagram tiles and theme puzzles, according to Microsoft’s description.

Players can either go for the bonus points, try to find the most words possible, or earn big by finding the longest words. You basically decide what you’re good at and try to capitalize on that.

The idea for the game certainly isn’t new, as there are several games in the App Store that work pretty much the same.

However, considering that Wordament has been available for some time on Windows platforms, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to consider that others copied the game from Microsoft, and not the other way around.

“We love our player community and our players love their stats! So we track player progress by maintaining private statistics including your best word found, total score, best word count, first place finishes and the number of games you have completed,” says Microsoft.

“Public, real-time leader boards show you who's rocking it for the day, hour and overall. Climb the ranks and earn achievements and bragging rights along the way!”

The game is Xbox-enabled, which means you have access to Achievements, Leaderboards and your Friends on Xbox Live.

Wordament is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad and requires iOS 4.3 or later.
