Microsoft has rolled out this month’s Patch Tuesday updates only a few hours ago, but together with them, the company also introduced a number of non-security fixes specifically aimed at Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 machines.

Redmond hasn’t publicly detailed these patches, but their official descriptions mention that users should install them “to resolve issues in Windows.”

The KB2887595 update for example is aimed at Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 and comprises several performance fixes, according to Microsoft.

“These updates (*.msu) provide a collection of performance and reliability improvements that are designed to improve the Windows 8.1 experience. We recommend that you apply all of these updates as part of your regular maintenance routines. Failure to install all of the packages listed above could leave your machine in an untested state,” it said.

While no details have been provided, it’s safe to assume that all these updates are supposed to fix bugs and performance issues found in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, as users have found quite a lot of problems on the company’s new operating systems.

For example, some Windows 8 adopters are still unable to download and install Windows 8.1 from the store, even though the OS update was officially launched approximately one month ago.

At the same time, posts on Microsoft’s support forums indicate that users are struggling with issues affecting the boot and shutdown performance, as well as browsing after updating to Windows 8.1.

Just like the traditional security patches, these new fixes are being delivered via Windows Update, so in case you’ve already made the move to the new Windows 8.1, you have basically nothing to do as all of them are automatically shipped to your computer.

Some updates might require a computer reboot once installation comes to an end.
