With a little bit more than a month until the release of Windows 10, Microsoft is launching a new application that will allow Android users to switch more easily to Windows Phone platform.

Even though Windows 10 Mobile won't be available for download along with the PC version of Windows 10, on July 29, it's important that Microsoft has all these apps and services ready to be used when the new version of the operating system gets released.

The new application announced by Microsoft is in fact a new preview version of the former application that did not seem to be so popular among Android users.

Dubbed Switch to Windows Phone, the application is already available for download via Windows Phone Store or Google Play Store.

“In the Android app “Switch to Windows Phone”, we are offering you two ways to move your data from an Android phone to Windows Phone. You need this WP app if you choose WiFi way in the Android app,” explains Microsoft.

But what would you do with the Windows Phone version of the application considering you already own a device powered by this operating system?

The app allows users to create backup copy of personal data

Well, it's pretty simple, if you’ve already set up your Windows phone, you’ll be able to move your contacts, text messages, photos, videos, and music over directly using virtual Wi-Fi.

Also, those who use Switch to Windows Phone won't need any network, real Wi-Fi router or account to take advantage of its features.

You can now download Switch to Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8.

Android users can now download the application for free via Google Play store. The application should run smoothly on any device powered by 4.0.3 and up.
