Microsoft's botched updates saga continues with the same KB2920732 botched update that caused so many problems to Windows users who were running PowerPoint on their computers.

Today, Microsoft has launched a new update to fix the problems it found in the original update, so as of this morning, users are provided with a new patch referred to as KB2956149.

In a statement posted on the official bulletin page, Microsoft provided the following ambiguous details about the new patch:

“This update replaces update KB2920732, which is no longer available. If you have already installed update KB2920732, install this update to obtain the new version of this update.”

Leaving this statement aside, which to be honest creates more confusion, it's worth mentioning that KB2956149 is the official replacement for KB2920732, so in case you have already installed the botched bulletin, this new update should fix everything.

If you are yet to install the original fix, the new one should be enough for your computers, so you still get it to correct any previous issues that might exist in PowerPoint.

Affecting Windows RT devices

Microsoft confirmed that the botched bulletin was causing an error displaying the following message:

"POWERPNT.EXE – Bad Image C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\1033\PPINTL.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000428."

Right now, it appears that the issue was mostly experienced on Surface RT and Surface 2, but Microsoft says that the botched update was actually delivered to all devices that were running Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT, so basically all tablets powered by Windows RT got it.

Obviously, it's mandatory to get this new fix if you experienced any issues with the original update, so just have a look in Windows Update right now to get it as soon as possible.
