Hyperlapse is a new Microsoft technology that should allow users to capture smoother and more stabilized time lapses from first-person videos.

While this is brand-new technology, word about the application emerged back in March when a video demo of Hyperlapse was published online.

Today, Microsoft launched the Hyperlapse Mobile application on Windows Phone and Android platforms. However, the latter is only available in beta for the moment.

With Hyperlapse Mobile, users will be able to capture video and select a timelapse speed, resulting in a time lapse with a smoothly moving camera.

In addition, users will be able to import existing video from the phone's camera roll and hyperlapse it. It's also worth mentioning that the application supports hyperlapsing a video multiple times, at different speed rates from 1x to 32x.

No support for 512MB RAM devices

Hyperlapse Mobile also allows users to create selfie-lapses (selfie time lapses). Keep in mind that Windows Phones with 512MB of RAM can't capture at HD resolution. Also, devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and lower are not supported by Hyperlapse technology.

That being said, Microsoft confirmed that Hyperlapse Mobile is only compatible with the following smartphones: Lumia 435, Lumia 530, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 730, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, Lumia 930, Lumia 1520, and HTC One M8.

In order to access the beta version of Hyperlapse Mobile for Android, users will have to register on the application's Google+ community page.

Hyperlapse Mobile for Android only supports devices powered by Android 4.4 KitKat or later. The following smartphones and tablets are compatible with the application: Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S6 edge, Note 4, Google Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, HTC One M8, One M9, and Sony Xperia Z3.

However, Microsoft promised that they would be adding support for more Android devices soon, and will post updates when they are ready.
