Microsoft has recently launched Internet Explorer Developer Channel with gamepad support, thus giving the green light to high-quality games that can be played right in the browser, but the company is already thinking ahead when it comes to such content.

Redmond today revealed that Gargantia: Sky Courier, a very popular game in Japan designed by anime studio Production I.G., can be played in modern versions of Internet Explorer.

The game has been created using the open-source Turbulenz Engine, with Microsoft publishing the code on GitHub and thus providing developers with the possibility to modify it as they wish.

“The Turbulenz Engine uses an entity component system to give high-level access to the parts that make up the game itself - characters, game logic, scripts and so forth. Having this high-level platform makes it easy to write code to manipulate the game, and our in-game editor is also built on top of this layer,” the company said.

An in-depth description of the innovations used by Microsoft in this project is available on Modern.ie, and the company encourages developers who are trying to make the most of HTML5 and WebGL support in modern browsers to continue their efforts and support the evolution of web applications.
