Microsoft-owned Skype has just announced it will no longer support its Windows Phone 7 application further on.

The company announced it would focus all its efforts to bring new features and improvements to Windows Phone 8, building on the capabilities of the operating system, it won't have time to continue to support older platforms as well.

“Microsoft has the best platforms to enable us at Skype to build excellent experiences for our users. Over the past year, we’ve made a lot of progress bringing Skype even closer to the devices and services from Microsoft.

Whether it’s Snap on Windows 8 allowing you to do something else on your PC while having a video chat, Group Video Calling on Xbox One or powering Chat for Outlook.com, Skype is becoming an increasingly integral part of Microsoft devices and services,” wrote Lara Kingwell on Skype's blog.

As a result, Skype confirmed it has decided not to release any further updates to Skype for Windows Phone 7. However, those who own Windows Phone 7 devices will still be able to take advantage of Skype, as the application will remain available to download in the Windows Phone Store, “so users can still keep using the core Skype experiences, such as Chat, Voice and Video Calls.”

Obviously, there will be Skype for Windows Phone 7 users who will need support from time to time and the company already provided a solution.

All those who still use Skype for Windows Phone 7 can go to the developer's Community page where they will receive all the answers they need. Keep in mind though that you can't ask for new features and improvements for the application, as Skype will no longer offer updates.

“We’re excited to be working on even more great experiences for Skype for Windows Phone which we can unveil in the future,” concluded Kingwell.
