Microsoft has killed off Longhorn Reloaded. At the end of May 2007, the Joejoe group announced that Windows Longhorn was resurrected. The Longhorn Reloaded project was designed to continue Microsoft;s own development efforts abandoned at the end of 2004. Almost three years ago, the Redmond Company managed to perform a reset of Windows Longhorn and to diverge the operating system from the initial plans in order to produce the successor of Windows XP in 2006.

"Longhorn Reloaded is a Project dedicated to the revival of the Operating System known as Code Name "Longhorn". To put the projects aims simply, we aim to finish off what Microsoft started before the operating system was canceled," still reads a message posted on the Longhorn reloaded website.

But the Longhorn Project is dead and the operating system left to rest in peace. Joejoe had build on top of the pre-release Build 4074 of Longhorn and managed to make a technical refresh available for download. But Longhorn Reloaded M1 Technical Refresh, a version designed for public use had a short life and the same faith as the original operating system from Microsoft. And all it took was a Cease and Desist letter.

"Dear Members and developers, It is with sad news that I have to inform you that today due to a cesit and decist letter we recived from microsoft we are no longer able to provide you with a download link to longhorn reloaded. It deeply saddens me that although microsoft have known about this project for many months they only issued us with this notice a few days after we started to distribute the iso via torrents and ftp server," revealed cr1t1cal. Joejoe.org founder and senior administrator. Joejoe revealed that it will no longer even permit links, requests or threads related to Longhorn Reloaded and will be removed from the website.
