Microsoft is currently offering the Beta 2 bits for Internet Explorer 8, with a release-to-manufacture date reportedly slated for the end of this month. Yet, it was Internet Explorer 6 that moved to center stage on November 11, a version that was not connected to the Windows client and server operating systems. The Redmond giant revealed that Internet Explorer 6 would be included by default in Windows Mobile 6.1.4.

“At Tech•Ed EMEA, we announced the availability of emulators and documentation for Internet Explorer Mobile 6, which is the next generation browser for Windows Mobile. Available on new Windows Mobile devices soon, this browser will provide a high-quality browsing experience on your device that more closely resembles a desktop browsing experience,” revealed Joshua Partlow, Windows Mobile OEM and ISV documentation writer.

With Internet Explorer 6 for Windows Mobile 6.1.4, Microsoft is promising that phones powered by its mobile operating system will deliver the same user experience as the fully-fledged IE. In fact, the company indicates that IE6 for version 6.1.4 of Windows Mobile will be a full-featured browser. Windows Mobile 6.1.4's IE6 is already applauded as best delivering desktop-quality rendering and top compliance support, out of all Windows Mobile browsers. “Some of the cool features available with Internet Explorer Mobile 6 are: improved fidelity (support for full fidelity desktop rendering); layout fixes to accommodate a mobile screen (text wrap); enhanced Script and AJAX support (Jscript v5.7 from Internet Explorer 8); improved multimedia experience (Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 for Adobe Flash content); deeper integration with search; enhanced cursor navigation model; touch and gesture support – pan support; multiple zoom levels; [and] easy switching between mobile/desktop versions of sites by specifying UA strings.”
