Users in some markets can now download files larger than 50MB OTA

Windows Phone users out there interested in downloading applications from the official store over-the-air can now grab files that are of up to 100MB in size.

Users looking to download over-the-air files that are larger than 50MB can now do so, as Microsoft has just increased the previously imposed limit, a recent article on WPCentral reads.

However, it seems that the increased limit has been observed only in Brazil for the time being, and that it hasn’t been applied to the US and UK Windows Phone Stores as of now.

The 100MB download size limit is double than what most Windows Phone users can enjoy at the moment (which was set when Windows Phone 8 arrived in 2012), and is also much higher than the limit that Microsoft had for the Store when Windows Phone 7 was launched, namely 20MB.

Given that Microsoft has operated similar changes to the Windows Phone Store in the past, it would not come too much as a surprise if it did so once again, even without issuing an official announcement on the matter.

Should the new limit become available to all Windows Phone 8 users out there, it would be in line with what owners of iOS and Android devices can take advantage of at the moment.

Even so, those interested in downloading large files from the Windows Phone Store can connect to a Wi-Fi network for that, even now.

For the time being, however, there’s no specific info available on Microsoft’s plans on the matter, but chances are that the feature will be rolled out gradually to users depending on the market they are on.

Furthermore, as WPCentral notes, users might also see the increase in OTA download limit being rolled out depending on the wireless carrier, given that operators also play an important role when it comes to data allowance.

Hopefully, additional details on this will be provided in the near future, so keep an eye on this space to learn them.
