They will be treated like RRODs

The Xbox 360 is one of the most popular consoles of this generation, largely because it was the first one of the new wave of devices to be launched and has been backed up by a solid multiplayer and online service in the form of Xbox Live.

Sadly, things weren't all sunshine and butterflies for people who decided to buy this console, as it was plagued with hardware failures and errors, including the infamous Red Ring of Death (RROD), which flashed when a total hardware failure occurred.

In an effort to please fans, Microsoft has decided to extend the warranty of such errors, while preaching that the worst of the problems has disappeared. Now, however, a lot of Xbox 360 users have been getting a new error, displaying the E74 code instead of the RROD.

But fret not Xbox 360 gamers, as Microsoft has just announced it will extend the warranty on such problems and support the costs associated with getting your precious console back up and running, similar to the warranty program already underway for people who experienced RROD errors.

“While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays 'E74' on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.”

So there you have it Xbox 360 users, it seems that if you have encountered the error, Microsoft will support all of the costs. For users who have paid for their consoles to be fixed after suffering an E74, Microsoft has promised to refund the amount of money within four to 12 weeks.
