The Microsoft HUG 2009 Innovation Awards are designed to bring to center stage solutions dedicated to patient care built with examples of Microsoft technologies at the heart. Offered by the Microsoft Health Users Group (Microsoft HUG) and Microsoft, the awards focus on both customers and partners, and have now passed their 12th annual edition. No less than four organizations received the Microsoft HUG 2009 Innovation Awards at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2009 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago on April 6.
“With the recent discussions in Washington, leveraging health IT to improve patient outcomes, control costs and enable informed decision-making has never been more important,” said Chris Sullivan, industry solutions director, Microsoft U.S. Health and Life Sciences Group.
The Redmond company informed that the 2009 awards would celebrate the integration of Microsoft technologies into products designed not only to boost the quality of patient care but also to improve business benefit for members of the healthcare industry. In this regard, Heritage Valley Health System with Healthcare Software Collaborative LLC received the Use of Clinical Records – Inpatient award for the Mobile Clinical Access Portal. M-CAP, a mobile clinical portal, provides a bridge to clinical desktops and remote connectivity with anywhere access to clinical data.
NextGen EHR, a solution set up to deliver charts with patient data independent of location, made the Best Use of Clinical Records – Ambulatory award to go to Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare and NextGen Healthcare Information Systems. Northeast Physician Hospital Organization (NEPHO) with MedVentive are the winners of the Best Use of Information Exchange (HIE) and Interoperability for a collaborative care platform dubbed the MedVentive Quality Intervention Module (QIM). Microsoft also awarded the Best Use of HealthVault Applications to American Heart Association and Get Real Consulting for Heart360, an online tool designed to simplify health information management.
“The Microsoft HUG 2009 Innovation Awards winners represent true health IT leadership and serve as an example to all healthcare providers seeking guidance on how to best take advantage of their IT investments in a difficult economic time. Microsoft will continue to work with the organizations honored today, as well as with people throughout the world to discover new and innovative ways that technology can address key challenges facing consumers and providers,” Sullivan added.
