Software maker Microsoft has filed a new copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit, this time against a Buford company that allegedly installed illegal copies of its software on sold PCs.

According to a report by AJC.com, Microsoft claims that VertexPC “advertised, marketed, installed, and offered and distributed unauthorized copies” of its software, including the 11-year-old Windows XP.

VertexPC, whose clients include large companies such as Coca-Cola and NASA, was warned by Microsoft in December, after the software giant started its own investigation in the case.

What’s more, the company has sold pirated copies of Windows XP to a so-called investigator in April, so Microsoft is now seeking not only damages, but also a share of the profit made by VertexPC by selling its software.

Microsoft is yet to issue a public comment on this, but expect more details to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
