Microsoft Gives Green Light to App-V Updates for Businesses

Following the release of the second Service Pack for Microsoft Application Virtualization version 4.5, the company revealed that it was giving the green light to App-V updates for business users through Windows Server Update Services. In this sense, customers running WSUS will be able to notice the addition of a new product family to their servers, namely Microsoft Application Virtualization. According to the Redmond company, the new WSUS product family will not be reserved only for version 4.5 of App-V, but will enable business customers to manage updates for additional versions of Microsoft Application Virtualization instead.

”The Microsoft Application Virtualization product family will include updates for all Microsoft Application Virtualization products. It will include a variety of update types, e.g. service packs, optional updates, critical updates and security updates. Additionally, Microsoft Application Virtualization updates will be available through Microsoft Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog,” a WSUS team representative stated.

Customers running App-V 4.5 can already download the SP2 upgrade via Microsoft Update, but also through the Microsoft Volume Licensing Site (MVLS). MSDN and TechNet subscribers were also permitted access to App-V 4.5 SP2 earlier this week. Now, with the new WSUS category, App-V 4.5 SP2 will also be served to business users through Microsoft’s server-based update management solution.

“A new product category will be added to your WSUS server under the Microsoft Application Virtualization family, entitled Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5. The Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 category will allow all classifications of updates to be offered to the Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 product. You will see this new category when new updates are available for this product. You should sync the Microsoft Application Virtualization family if you have these products in your managed environment,” the WSUS team representative added.
